November Newsletter

November 4, 2009

Dear Parents:

Autumn has certainly begun!  The Halloween and Saints’ Day Parade were a success!  The students enjoyed the festivities, as well as, learning about our Christian traditions and holidays; such as, All Hallow’s Eve.  Additionally, the sixth grade led the All Souls’ Day Mass this Monday with beautiful singing voices and reverently participated in the readings and petitions for the holy day.

The end of the First Quarter was on Friday, October 30, 2009.   Report Cards will be received by Friday, November 6, 2009.  However, Parent Conferences will be held on November 10, 2009. You will receive your appointment time with the report card.

Academically, the students are in the midst of reading the novel The Egypt Game and thoroughly enjoying its contents, as well as, learning more about ancient Egypt in correlation to the unit we are studying in Social Studies.  Also, the students are becoming familiar with literary devices and elements; such as, metaphor, foreshadowing, mood and plot.   The students’ historical book reports are due November 30, 2009 and the Diorama Egypt settlement project is due on November 20, 2009.  For the historical book report, I will send home a graphic organizer worksheet for the students to organize and assist them in the formulation of the final draft of their book report.  When grading the book reports and projects I utilize a rubric point system which will be sent home with the project.

Have a wonderful, Happy Thanksgiving!

Ms. Dickson
